The Student Senate of the California Community Colleges (SSCCC), the University of California Student Association (UCSA), and Cal State Student Association (CSSA), which collectively represent nearly three million college students in California’s public higher education systems, in partnership with administration, legislators, research organizations and advocacy groups, rally to urge state leaders to finally fix the state’s broken financial aid system.
Laura Szabo-Kubitz at The Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS) says, “Students at all types of colleges across California are struggling with significant affordability challenges, leading to problems like food and housing insecurity. These struggles affect their ability to be successful in school and contribute to burdensome levels of debt that must be repaid. New investments in need-based financial aid designed to help more students get financial aid and to increase the amount available to help students pay for non-tuition college costs are necessary to enable more Californians to get to and through college.”
Together this coalition is advocating for investments that address student’s basic needs, cover the total cost of attendance, expand access, and includes summer courses - for today and tomorrow’s students.
