WHEREAS, some students with disabilities have classes in older buildings that don’t have ADA Accessibility and not all buildings in the California Community Colleges are completely ADA accessible;
WHEREAS, even if the student has access to the building they don’t necessarily have access to the classrooms within the building;
WHEREAS, not all campuses have an ADA compliance officer so that students can report and discuss their concerns;
WHEREAS, according to ADA Title 3 § 36.211 Maintenance of accessible features (a) A public accommodation shall maintain in operable working condition those features of facilities and equipment that are required to be readily accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities; and
RESOLVED, older buildings on campuses should strive to implement modifications to resemble new code enforcement to ensure ADA compliance;
RESOLVED, every community college campus will make proper modifications to ensure all students have access to their lecture hall and classrooms as well as buildings throughout campus;
RESOLVED, all California Community College campuses obtain an ADA compliance officers to address student, faculty and staff concerns; and
RESOLVED, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges will advocate for financial resources to be allocated to each community college to make the proper adaptations.
