WHEREAS, the current legislation governing fraternization at community colleges are inadequate, such as the Foothill-De Anza district policy which makes no explicit or implicit references to fraternization nor provides adequate training on fraternization;

WHEREAS, both the University of California and the California State University systems have stringent guidelines governing fraternization that expand beyond the common statutes that govern sexual harassment, ensuring this serious issue is given the attention it deserves; and

WHEREAS, fraternization creates special risks for conflict of interest, exploitation, favoritism, and bias in any sexual or romantic relationship between individuals in inherently unequal positions, and undermines the real or perceived integrity of the supervision and evaluation provided; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges discourage any sexual or romantic relationship between individuals in inherently unequal positions, such as teacher and student, supervisor and employee, senior faculty and junior faculty, mentor and trainee, adviser and advisee, teaching assistant and student, and coach and athlete, among others; and

RESOLVED, the resident Title IX officer at all community college programs will now be given the ability to take any and all remedies allowed under federal law to investigate and prevent undue fraternization, keeping in line with their mandate.
