Whereas, The Board of Governors adopted a motion on March 6, 2007, which says in part “to begin the process of evaluating the implementation of a system-wide, uniform, common assessment with multiple measures of all community college students...” without adequate information and input from constituent groups; and
Whereas, The Consultation Council has created a taskforce to explore the issues inherent in the Board of Governors motion about assessment and placement;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges continue to participate fully in all statewide discussion on assessment, including the Consultation Council Taskforce on Assessment, and inform and solicit input from local student senates;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges work with the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges to urge the Board of Governors to model the participatory governance required of local Boards of Trustees, particularly emphasizing the importance of the role of students; and
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges conduct a follow up breakout session at the 2007 Fall General Assembly to present the current status, discussions and findings of the Consultation Council Taskforce on Assessment and make recommendations to the Assembly for developing a position on the Board of Governors’ motion.
