WHEREAS, associated student organizations are required to follow the Ralph M. Brown Act (Gov. Code, § 54950);

WHEREAS, advisors perform an important role, and are in place to help guide students and prevent students from inadvertently violating, district policy, local, state and federal laws;

WHEREAS, there are legal repercussions for violating the Ralph M. Brown Act; and

WHEREAS, not every associated student organization advisor currently receives training; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) advocate in the legislature for community colleges to be required to provide advisors with Brown Act compliance training conducted by qualified individuals;

RESOLVED, that the SSCCC identifies at least one member of the State Legislature to sponsor a bill enacting this regulation;

RESOLVED, that the SSCCC works with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office to encourage that community college districts begin to offer this training to student government advisors; and

RESOLVED, that the SSCCC supports Brown Act compliance training for Associated Student Organizations.
