Whereas, The California Community College system uses a wide variety of assessment and placement instruments at its 112 campuses;
Whereas, The campuses achieve little economy of scale in the purchase of assessment instruments, thus causing an impact on already stretched
matriculation budgets;
Whereas, Students are needlessly tested and retested as they move from campus to campus because tests are not common or portable; and
Whereas, It would be highly beneficial to students and cost efficient for the districts to adopt one common set of assessments across all campuses for the purpose of placement in Math, English, and English as a Second Language;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges supports the concept of common and centrally delivered assessment
instruments throughout the California Community College system;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support efforts to obtain legislative authors to reconstitute AB2682 (2010,
Block) which called for a pilot and feasibility analysis of common assessment; and
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges supports the concept of creating common student learning outcomes for remedial coursework that can be used as an assessment benchmark and rubric.
