Whereas, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires, by federal mandate, all schools to provide reasonable accommodations to all students with documented disabilities, and those schools failing to comply with this unfunded mandate may/will lose their accreditation; and

Whereas, The aforementioned mandate is 100% unfunded by the federal government and minimally funded by the state leaving individual schools to try to fund the programs themselves;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocate on all levels within their purview and by all means at their disposal, for the ADA to be funded by the government be it federal, state or a combination of the two;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges should coordinate with United States Student Association, California State Student Association, Associated Student Governments Association, various congresspersons, senators and the California Governor’s office for advocating for funding when they are in Sacramento and Washington D.C.;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges forward the content of this resolution to a member or members of both the state assembly and the United States Congress for consideration and possible use in the drafting of a new bill; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Governor’s office to review the current and antiquated "Rule of Four" for state funding to various campuses Disabled Students Programs and Services, and that any regulations causing detriment to any disabled student group be reviewed and considered for removal for the betterment of the students
