Whereas, 21st century higher education students are “digital” natives characterized by their experience learning with technology;
Whereas, The effective use of education technology, both in the classroom and online, has been demonstrated to augment student success;
Whereas, Faculty use of education technology can lead to a long-term reduction in their daily workload and increase student success; and
Whereas, Educational technologies use fewer resources than traditional pedagogical practices, leading to greater cost-effectiveness and reduced ecological footprint;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community College urge institutions to research and adopt cost-effective educational technologies (e.g. ubiquitous Wi-Fi, learning management systems (LMS), open-source applications, student response systems, lecture capture, electronic tests, etc;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges recognize the value of education technologies to expand learning modalities that address a diversity of learning styles, thereby providing greater efficiencies in student learning; and
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges urge Academic Senates to ensure that technical competence is included in the faculty evaluation process.
