WHEREAS young adults in the 18-29 age range have the lowest voter registration and turnout of any age group; [1]

WHEREAS 72.7% of California Community College Students are between the ages of 18 & 30 and are eligible to vote; [2]

WHEREAS many community college students are unable to vote on election days due to class schedules or school obligations;

WHEREAS Community College Students not voting in an election could affect how students are represented in all levels of government, which could decrease legislative support for students and negatively impact a student’s ability to further their education, therefore

RESOLVED that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges urges the California Community Colleges Board of Governors to recognize every presidential, midterm and primary election days as system-wide holidays in order to give students the opportunity to vote.
