Whereas, The costs of textbooks is frequently greater than the cost of student fees or tuition at a CCC and is a major expense for students and textbook costs have risen at rates far greater than the general consumer price index over the past decade;
Whereas, E-texts today are priced at levels 50% of that of traditional texts;
Whereas, Electronic textbooks are now becoming more readily available, that requires ISBN number provisions to the students before class registration and digital texts by 2020 through legislative efforts, both statewide and nationally; and
Whereas, Students rarely have the opportunity to purchase e-texts in the normal registration/bookstore process, and must go outside the campus to find such e-texts;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support all efforts and pilots currently underway to integrate e-text purchasing during the student registration process and/or bookstore purchasing avenues; and
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support current vendor efforts.
