Whereas, Electronic waste is defined as cell phones, desktop computers, laptops, televisions and refrigerators;

Whereas, The State of California signed into law electronic waste (e-waste) legislation SB 20 in 2003 and SB 50 in 2004 prohibiting the dumping of e-waste into the trash;

Resolved, That Student Senate for California Community Colleges urge local senates to partner with e-waste collection companies to provide convenient drop off centers and services which recycle said e-waste in an environmentally sustainable and socially equitable manner; these local companies often donate a portion of their proceeds to the campuses they work with to support student activities;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges connect with environmentally minded students and non-profits to facilitate workshops discussing e-waste and why it is a resource that can repurposed and reused; and

Resolved, The Student Senate for California Community Colleges share www.storystuff.org/electronics to educate students about e-waste.
