Whereas, Student activism in civic activities can play a major role in the development of students into well-rounded citizens;
Whereas, The time, energies and resources consumed by these civil engagement activities can negatively impact a student’s academic well-being in regards to attendance and test re-scheduling policies;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges work with the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and system partners as well as local student and academic senates to identify methods of incorporating civic engagement in all curriculum and encourage assignments that motivate student participation; and
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges work with the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and system partners as well as local student and academic senates to allow for attendance and participation “release time” for student leaders who are engaged in leadership roles at the local, district, region and state levels.
