WHEREAS, student on-campus employees provide essential administrative support to faculty, classified staff and students and are usually the first person someone would talk to in order to receive assistance;
WHEREAS, there is a positive correlation between someone’s earned income and a person’s experience/education level and a college student provides a lot of experience and education worth more than a minimum wage; and
WHEREAS, student employees are sometimes overworked to provide students with events and services during the early morning and late evenings, as well as during the beginning of the semester when there is a high volume in student activity; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the Student Senate for California Community College will advocate for legislation to increase funding in the California Community College budget to pay for increases in the hourly rate for on-campus student employees; and
RESOLVED, the SSCCC will also advocate for specific allocation amount that gives on-campus student employees a 50-cent increase to their hourly rate for every 12 units a student completes and that there be a cap on how much a student can earn towards their hourly rate at 60 units, $2.50.
