Whereas, Discriminating against a person on the basis of their age is morally wrong and therefore a violation of an individual’s civil rights;

Whereas, Students under the age of twenty-four are hindered from receiving financial aid that depends upon federal funding (which requires submission of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA form) on the basis of a logical fallacy that younger students are not financially independent;

Whereas, The hindrance of providing financial aid to students under the age of twenty-four is clearly age discrimination; and

Whereas, Discriminating against a person on the basis of their age is morally wrong and therefore a violation of an individual’s civil rights;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges officially condemns the practice of using age to discriminate against students;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges actively engages in advocacy efforts with all other appropriate groups to adopt policies and/or legislation to end the practice of discriminating against students on the basis of age when making eligibility determinations for disbursing federal financial aid to students; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges encourages each local associated student organization to the same position against age discrimination.
