Whereas, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) sponsors the LEED Green Associates program;

Whereas, this program allows California Community Colleges students to take a course to gain competency in sustainable infrastructure and these students are able to take an exam and get a nationally recognized certificate which students can use in their career;

Whereas, this would be of great value to our architecture, engineering, business, and other students involved with infrastructure development, maintenance, or resource management and ensuring that as many students as possible utilize this is not only beneficial to their careers but to society overall; and

Whereas, a faculty representative is required for this program to be utilized by students and the USGBC has not committed to fund the program indefinitely;

Resolved, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Student Senate Council to work with local ASOs to pilot LEED Green Associates Programs throughout the system; and Resolved, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocates the continued funding of LEED Green Associates Programs so that students are able to take the examination and receive the credential.
