Equity and Diversity, Relations with Local Senates
Whereas, One of the many functions of student governments is to promote an environment that is culturally diverse, mutually respectful, and
authentically safe, regardless of age, race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, creed, disability, veteran's status, sexual orientation, gender
identity or gender expression;

Whereas, The LGBTA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Allies) community is a part of every campus and brings a rich and diverse perspective; and

Whereas, The LGBTA community has faced, and still faces an overwhelming amount of bigotry that undermines their basic intrinsic
human dignity as seen by the rise in number of teen and college student suicides in the LGBTA community; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges urges local senates and California community colleges to promote an
environment that encourages the development of an LGBTA community support system;

Resolved, That the SSCCC urge local senates and currently formed LGBTA clubs to provide inclusivity as well as training and implementation of "Safe Zones" for said community;

Resolved, That the SSCCC urge local senates or LGBTA Clubs to encourage moderated communication which will promote and allow the use of social media; and

Resolved, That the SSCCC urge local senates to dedicate one day out of the school year to the celebration and recognition of a Day of Diversity that also recognizes the LGBTA community.
