Whereas, The Student Senate for California Community College seeks to represent all students in the California Community College System in the most effective and timely manner;
Whereas, The Executive Officers are essential to providing organizational leadership and in conducting Council business in an effective manner;
Whereas, The SSCCC Constitution, Article IV, Section 8(b) currently states:
“All officers shall be elected by the Student Senate Council and shall be chosen among the members of the Student Senate Council by 2/3 of the members in attendance”;
and
Whereas, The 2/3 majority vote requirement to elect Executive Officers has continuously proven to be a lengthy, time-consuming and divisive process, negatively effecting productivity and hindering Council business;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges amend its Constitution, Article IV, Section 8(b) to read:
“All officers shall be elected by the Student Senate Council and shall be chosen among the members of the Student Senate Council by 2/3 a majority of the members in attendance. In the event that no candidate for a position receives a majority, a run-off election will be held limited to the top two candidates with the largest number of votes.”
