Whereas, Student Senate for California Community Colleges Resolution 14.02 S10 directs the Student Senate for California Community Colleges governing body to adopt and disseminate “The Student Representation Fee: A Guide to Implementation on Your Campus”, but subsequent copyright and use permission of this material by the Student Senate for California Community Colleges is now uncertain;
Whereas, Education Code §76060.5 authorizes students at each college to establish a student representation fee (SRF) for the purposes of providing “for the support of governmental affairs representatives who may be stating their positions and viewpoints before city, county, and district
governments, and before offices and agencies of the state government”;
Whereas, AB 1358 (Fong) amends Education Code §76060.5 which effectively doubles the amount of student funds for such support, and specifies funding mechanisms for statewide student representative bodies, thereby increasing the threshold of responsibility that Student Senate for California Community Colleges might have in spending and implementation of Student Representation Fee funds collected through local ASO bodies;
Whereas, Student Senate for California Community Colleges Resolution 7.02 F07 directs the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) governing body to “educate and assist...colleges in successfully passing and implementing the student representation fee”;
Resolved, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges governing body will direct timely review of Education Code §76060.5 as amended by AB 1358, in addition to review of California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Legal Opinions related to SRF, for the purpose of creating a new, publicly owned document, entitled “Student Representation Fee: An Implementation Guide for Students”; and Resolved, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges disseminate the “Student Representation Fee: An Implementation Guide for Students” to local senates before Fall 2014 General assembly, especially to those colleges without the Student Representation Fee, and make it available on its website.
