WHEREAS, up to 40% of students that attend community college work either a full-time job or a part-time job throughout the week and do not have time to access library hours during the week day [1]. By providing extended on-campus library hours during the weekend, we give these students a chance to be in a quiet setting dedicated towards their educational success;

WHEREAS, access to dependable internet is an obstacle for many community college students, some students that attend community colleges do not have Internet access at home. Giving students access to the school on campus library provides a safe and well-resourced environment conducive to student learning; it is not only convenient, but beneficial to the student, so he/she can have a place to focus and do their school work on the weekends, thus giving these students a higher chance to earn a better academic grade;

WHEREAS, some students do not have a quiet environment to study at home, thus discouraging students to do their work. But, if there was an option for a student to go to an on-campus library to do their work. This will allow an option to many students who want to get ahead or catch up on school work, during the weekend; and

WHEREAS, students that attend community colleges need all the advantages necessary to achieve higher educational success. Having the on-campus library open on the weekends during operational hours will give students the option. A place that they can rely on to study and focus, and that is adhering towards their academic success. Thus, providing community college students with the proper resources needed to achieve higher educational success; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges shall identify all community college campuses that do not have weekend library hours open on-campus;

RESOLVED, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges shall contact each college that does not have on-campus weekend library hours open, and to email or contact directly, to each campus and advocate the benefits of having weekend library hours open for community college students; and

RESOLVED, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges makes this resolution to be a top-level priority and this resolution goes into effect immediately upon passage by the Delegate Assembly, and the SSCCC shall provide a monthly report on the progress of the actions taken in support of this resolution.
