Fall 2009
Committee:
Resolutions Committee
Whereas, The Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) as well as its system partners often have a hard time dealing with prioritizing and addressing the ever increasing number of resolutions drafted/created, the SSCCC often falls behind or does not find a means of dealing with the requests of the body causing a lot of said resolutions to become antiquated and not pertinent as time passes;

Whereas, Due to the increasing number of resolutions being passed without a specific time table for the resolution to be addressed by the SSCCC, while there is a constant increase in student advocacy the SSCCC is often catching up to resolutions assigned and trying to disseminate this information to its constituents in the form of an accountability report and it’s only presented a year after the resolution has been passed;

Whereas, The SSCCC is often trying to reach its constituents and helping them develop and craft resolution/policies that will help them benefit the students at the local campus, this information is only presented at SSCCC general assemblies and then posted online without being disseminated and thus encourage its use on a constant basis; and

Whereas, Some resolutions don’t have a mandate but an idea/philosophy that defines what the Student Senate for California Community College should constantly advocate, and at the same time the resolution lacks a deadline or end point that causes the SSCCC to often drop a more pertinent resolution and focus to address this resolution;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges assign to all resolutions that do not have a clear and defined time to be completed a maturity date, said resolutions without a maturity date to get a Maturity (expiration) date of three years or six consecutive SSCCC general assemblies after they were originally written and no expiration date was stated by the author;

Resolved, That once the SSCCC has given a maturity date and that time has been reached, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges will review the expired resolution and give a status (completed, matured, or expired as the time stated in the resolution has been reached) by the resolutions committee and disseminated to the SSCCC constituents while constantly looking for a way to implement the maturity date policy;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges encourage its colleges to use and refer to past Resolutions that reached maturity date and/or have expired prior to writing resolutions, and to send that report with the first invitation to general assembly for fall and spring
assemblies; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges constantly advocate for issues that pertain to the students it represents as stated in the resolutions, as resolutions mandate never goes away even when the resolutions expires.
