Whereas; The duties and commitments to this nation were met by these soldiers, they therefore should be entitled to some form of financial assistance to pursue their education;

Whereas; Prior to the current repeal of “Don't Ask Don't Tell”, these men and women were discharged due to their sexual orientation, and thus could not receive their G.I. Bill benefits, which would help fund their higher education goals; and

Whereas; There have been many brave gay men and women who have served their country for at least two years;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocate on behalf of the people who were discharged from the United States Military due to their sexual orientation;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges encourage all California Community Colleges implement a scholarship fund for people who meet the description of “gay/lesbian soldier discharged due to sexual orientation”; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local, state and federal legislators to advocate for a special
scholarship fund for those student that meet the description of “gay/lesbian discharged after serving at least two years due to sexual orientation.
