Whereas, smokers on campus compromise the health of other students, with regards to those whom already have respiratory health risk such as asthma, bronchitis, etc;
Whereas, lack of awareness for the consequences smokers face to their health and others, may perpetuate ongoing negative consequences from smoking practices;
Whereas, students do not comply with the smoking policy on campus - which results in improper disposal and campus cleanliness practices; and
Whereas, smoke free campuses face the challenge of smokers not complying with the rules of smoking in designated areas; therefore, let it be
Resolved, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocate for programs or events in alliance with campus health centers to raise awareness for the concern of smoking;
Resolved, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges coordinate with organizations and system partners to help develop programs whereby smokers have the option of guidance for receiving help to quit smoking; and
Resolved, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocate with the California Community College Districts and administration to promote the assigned locations for designated smoking areas in addition to availability of proper receptacles and waste management; and
Resolved, the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocate with the California Community College Districts to implement enforcement of warnings and fines from the Sheriffs on non-designated smoking areas on campuses.

Status
Medium: Per BoG Memorandum, the BoG recommends that all CCCs become smoke free. Communication about smoking cessation can be included in the legislative priority regarding health and wellness.
