WHEREAS, student leaders dedicate tens of hours a week in order to represent student interests at the college, district and state level at student senate, standing committees and other meetings during times that conflict and or limit hours availability to work at a job;
WHEREAS, many Associated Student Organization’s across the nation give stipends to student leaders if they follow certain requirements such as minimum courses taken and enrolled in, GPA, and hours dedicated to serve students; and
WHEREAS, if student leaders were given compensation for their services, there would be less financial, transportation and other barriers/constraints that would stop effective, efficient and important advocacy work; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the Student Senate for California Community College will advocate for legislation or policy/regulations that will support and allow an Associated Student Organization and their college/district to provide compensation to student leaders in the form of but not limited to a stipend, scholarships, parking spots/passes, transportation assistance; and
RESOLVED, the Regional, System and Legislative Affairs Directors in each Region will work with Associated Student Organizations in their region to help advocate for compensations for student leaders.
