Whereas, The Secretary of State reports that out of 23 million Californians who are eligible to vote, as of February 5, 2008, only 15 million Californians had registered, with only 9 million voting in the last election;

Whereas, SB 854 (2007), the “Student E-Voter Registration Act of 2007”, mandates community colleges to provide the option for students to receive pre-printed voter registration cards through online community college class registration systems by January 1, 2010;

Whereas, The Governor and the California State Legislature, all of whom are elected by the people of the State of California, have control over many decisions affecting the California community colleges, including the state’s budgetary support for our education; and

Whereas, As of April 2008, ten community college districts have already implemented the Student E-Voter Registration system, with over 104,000 voter registration requests reported thus far;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges encourage and support efforts to register students to vote;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support early implementation efforts of the Student E-Voter Registration Act of 2007; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges urge local senates to support their district’s early implementation of the Student E-Voter Registration Act of 2007.

Completed. The state Electronic Voter Registration was brought online in Fall 2012.
