WHEREAS, approximately 32.8% of students experience housing insecurities, 12.2% face food insecurities, and 23,854 students were homeless last year — a record high and a 4.7% increase over the previous year[1];
WHEREAS, food and housing insecurities directly impact student success by inhibiting their projected goals of completion or transfer[2][3]; and
WHEREAS, it is observed that there is a need for housing insecurity advocacy across all community colleges; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) works with the Chancellor's Office to advocate for housing insecurity legislation;
RESOLVED, that the SSCCC encourages the ASOs to advocate that training and resources be available on all California Community Colleges regarding student housing insecurities and basic needs resources for students; and
RESOLVED, that the SSCCC advocate for California Community Colleges to work with the surrounding community and outside homeless resource agencies to locate and assist with establishing sustainable subsidized student housing.
