Relations with Local Senates
Whereas, There are over 2.6 million students in the California Community Colleges System, the need for representation and advocacy is key for each individual college at the local, state and federal levels and advocacy will allow students to have a direct voice on issues pertinent to their college experience;

Whereas, Many colleges are unable to provide the necessary resources to support student representation, potentially leading to an inadequacy of the students’ voice;

Whereas, Education Code §76060.5 allows colleges to establish a student representation fee for the purposes of providing “for the support of governmental affairs representatives who may be stating their positions and viewpoints before city, county, and district governments, and before offices and agencies of the state government”; and

Whereas, Some colleges do not have a student representation fee;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges identify the California community colleges that do not have the student representation fee; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges educate and assist the identified colleges that do not have the student representation fee in successfully passing and implementing the student representation fee.
