Whereas, Research shows that students participating on campus tend to do better in their studies than when working a full time job, and participating in student government takes time from working to sustain a quality of life to be able to afford college and costs such as textbooks and child care;

Whereas, A recent survey shows that the majority of community colleges do not provide any unit or grade equivalent to balance out extra time given to the college by such students;

Whereas, Recent surveys again show that at least half of the community colleges do in fact give some sort of stipends to their student government; and

Whereas, One of the biggest concerns of the local senates is how to increase student participation in student government;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges research ways that are already in use on school campuses that are effective practices to help offer stipends or other means of compensation to all students in government in community colleges in the State of California.
