Whereas, Senate Bill (SB) 1143 by Senator Carol Liu was passed by the California Assembly and Senate and ultimately signed by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger which created a task force on student success and completion;
Whereas, The Student Success Task Force (SSTF) Recommendation 2.4 states: “Require students whose diagnostic assessments show a lack of readiness for college to participate in a support resource, such as a student success course, provided by the college for new students”; and
Whereas, The SSTF Draft Recommendations state that, “A student’s readiness for college is based on several factors in addition to their academic proficiency in English and mathematics or their ability to perform well on standard assessment tests.”;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support the Student Success Task Force Recommendation 2.4.
