Whereas, Senate Bill (SB) 1143 by Senator Carol Liu was passed by the California Assembly and Senate and ultimately signed by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger which created a task force on student success and completion;

Whereas, The Student Success Task Force (SSTF) Recommendation 4.1 states: “Community Colleges will use the requirements for a student to complete a
program of study, along with state and local data, including enrollment trends and labor market demand to develop course schedules and determine course
offerings”;

Whereas, The students of the California Community Colleges feel that course offerings should be a mixture of student demand and new course offerings; and

Whereas, The SSTF Draft Recommendations state under “Requirements for Implementation” that: “Under this recommendation, students having the course
in their education plan would pay the credit enrollment fee, while students not having the course in their education plan would pay a fee covering the full cost
of instruction”;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support the Student Success Task Force Recommendation 4.1 and support an amendment to include a provision for new course offerings; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges oppose the idea that students would have to pay the full cost of instruction to take a class that is not in their educational plan.
