Whereas, Students who are undocumented are ineligible for federal and state financial aid and loans and that the only financial assistance available to these students is private scholarships;
Whereas, Upon graduation, undocumented students are not eligible to take specific professional examinations nor are they eligible to enter an occupation legally because of their immigration status;
Whereas, Undocumented students who meet basic requirements will be eligible under the Federal Dream Act for conditional permanent resident status and later can qualify for lawful permanent resident status; and
Whereas, Current perception of the Federal Dream Act is false and hinders the possibility for qualified undocumented students to benefit from the Federal Dream Act;
Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges urge that the United States Congress pass and President Barack Obama sign the Federal Dream Act into law or any similar legislation that will provide the same opportunities afforded to documented students; thus advancing educational opportunities for undocumented students across the State of California and the United States of America.
