Whereas, Many community college transfer students are forced to retake many classes that were taken at a community college when they transfer to a four year institution;

Whereas, Some transfer students have taken up to 180 units in their higher education experience when only 120 units are required for most baccalaureate degrees, resulting in costly inefficiencies;

Whereas, No associates degree is given to transfer students who attain 60 transferable units; and

Whereas, Many transfer students are not properly informed about many of the education requirements for graduation at California State Universities and Universities of California that are different at each individual campus and often have extra requirements beyond what is required for that particular system;

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges advocate for legislation and/or system-wide partnerships supporting an associates’ degree in transfer general education or transfer within a specified major; and

Resolved, That the Student Senate for California Community Colleges support legislation and/or system-wide partnerships requiring the California State University or University of California to guarantee admission to a program or major that is similar to the community college students’ major.
Status
Completed. SB 1440 (Ch 428, Statutes of 2010) created the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act that guaranteed admission to the California State University at the Junior standing after completing a specified set of courses.
